Video Games

I have enjoyed playing video games since 1989. My first gaming system was a Texas Instruments. Later I got the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). In college I bought the Playstation 2. After college I got the original Xbox. I currenlty have the Xbox One.

Texeas Instruments

The TI-99/4 is a home computer released in late 1979 by Texas Instruments. Based on the Texas Instruments TMS9900 microprocessor originally used in minicomputers, it was the first 16-bit home computer. TI's own video display controller allows color graphics and among the best sprite support of its era. The calculator-style keyboard is a weak point, and the system suffered a lack of commercial software because of TI's requirement for ROM cartridge and only providing developer information to select third parties.

The TI-99/4A was released in June 1981 to address some of these issues. It includes a simplified internal design, a full-travel keyboard, improved graphics, and a unique expansion system. At half the price of the original model, sales picked up significantly. TI supported the 4A with a peripherals, including a speech synthesizer and a "Peripheral Expansion System" box to contain hardware add-ons. TI released developer information and tools, but the insistence on remaining sole publisher continued to starve the platform of software.

NES

The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is an 8-bit third-generation home video game console produced by Nintendo. Nintendo first released it in Japan as the Family Computer (FC), commonly known as the Famicom,[b] in 1983. The NES, a redesigned version, made its debut in test markets in the United States in October 1985, before becoming widely available in the rest of North America and other countries during the following years.

The NES featured a number of groundbreaking games, such as the platform game Super Mario Bros. and the action-adventure games The Legend of Zelda and Metroid. As one of the bestselling consoles of its time, the NES helped revitalize the US video game industry following the video game crash of 1983. Nintendo introduced a now-standard business model of licensing third-party developers to produce and distribute games for the NES. The NES was succeeded by the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, which launched in Japan in 1990 and released in North America in 1991.

Xbox One

The Xbox One is a line of home video game consoles developed by Microsoft. Announced in May 2013, it is the successor to Xbox 360 and the third base console in the Xbox series of video game consoles. It was first released in North America, parts of Europe, Australia, and South America in November 2013 and in Japan, China, and other European countries in September 2014. It is the first Xbox game console to be released in China, specifically in the Shanghai Free-Trade Zone. Microsoft marketed the device as an "all-in-one entertainment system", hence the name "Xbox One". An eighth-generation console, it mainly competed against Sony's PlayStation 4 and Nintendo's Wii U and later the Switch.

Moving away from its predecessor's PowerPC-based architecture, the Xbox One marks a shift back to the x86 architecture used in the original Xbox; it features an AMD Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) built around the x86-64 instruction set. Xbox One's controller was redesigned over the Xbox 360's, with a redesigned body, D-pad, and triggers capable of delivering directional haptic feedback. The console places an increased emphasis on cloud computing, as well as social networking features and the ability to record and share video clips or screenshots from gameplay or livestream directly to streaming services such as Mixer and Twitch. Games can also be played off-console via a local area network on supported Windows 10 devices. The console can play Blu-ray Disc, and overlay live television programming from an existing set-top box or a digital tuner for digital terrestrial television with an enhanced program guide. The console optionally included a redesigned Kinect sensor, marketed as the "Kinect 2.0", providing improved motion tracking and voice recognition.

YouTube

I decided a while ago to "cut the cord", which means I no longer pay for cable. Instead I watch video entertainment on websites like YouTube. Here are a few channels I subsribe to.

Smarter Every Day

Destin Wilson Sandlin (born September 17, 1981) is an American engineer and science communicator who produces the video series Smarter Every Day on his YouTube channel of the same name, which was launched in 2007. Sandlin also runs the YouTube channels The Sound Traveler, Smarter Every Day 2, and a podcast called No Dumb Questions with his friend Matt Whitman.

In early 2016, Sandlin was one of three YouTube personalities chosen to conduct a one-on-one interview with then-president Barack Obama after his final State of the Union address. The interviews were sponsored by Google and were part of a White House initiative to reach millennial audiences.

Veritasium

Derek Alexander Muller (born 9 November 1982[2]) is an Australian-Canadian science communicator, filmmaker, television personality and inventor, who is best known for his YouTube channel Veritasium. Muller has also appeared as a correspondent on the Netflix web series Bill Nye Saves the World since 2017.

In January 2011, Muller created the educational science channel Veritasium on YouTube, the focus of which is "addressing counter-intuitive concepts in science, usually beginning by discussing ideas with members of the public". The videos range in style from interviews with experts, such as 2011 Physics Nobel Laureate Brian Schmidt, to science experiments, dramatisations, songs, and – a hallmark of the channel – interviews with the public to uncover misconceptions about science. The name Veritasium is a combination of the Latin word for truth, Veritas, and the suffix common to many elements, -ium. This creates Veritasium, an "element of truth", a play on the popular phrase and a reference to chemical elements. In its logo, which is a registered trade mark since 2016, the number "42.0" resembles an element on the periodic table. The number was chosen as it is "The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything" in Douglas Adams's famous novel.

Good Mythical Morning

Good Mythical Morning (abbreviated as GMM) is an American comedy, talk and variety YouTube series created by Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal. The show first aired on YouTube on January 9, 2012, and continues to be uploaded every weekday during the seasons. As of July 2021, the show has nineteen regular seasons and five summer seasons, one being part of season 11 and four being standalone seasons. The YouTube channel has over 17 million subscribers and more than 7 billion total video views.

Rhett and Link aired the first episode of Good Mythical Morning approximately one year later on January 9, 2012, to their YouTube channel of the same name. The series' crew only consisted of one member during the first season, but has since grown to have twenty-eight members, as a part of Mythical Entertainment. Fan reactions to their behind-the-scenes crew led to the creation of the YouTube channel "Mythical", which focuses on the antics of their crew and other skits. The show focuses on Rhett and Link as they tell stories, sing songs, do challenges, and more. On November 6, 2017, Good Mythical Morning became a YouTube Original series. Shortly after, they reverted to their classic format.
